Suarez Family Goes Skiing

Mom thought it would be a really good idea to take the entire family on a little ski trip. I really didn’t plan out the details of how exactly to teach the girls how to ski except to strap on the skis and teach them on the way down the mountain (bunny hill of course). Needless to say it didn’t really go according to plan, or lack of plan in the case.

Putting on snow gear in a car packed full of snow gear and equipment is not the easiest take for two adults and a 5 and 7 year old. It took us about 30 minutes to get “geared up”. Once we were geared up we had to take all of our equipment to the lodge about ½ mile from the car. The girls have never walked in ski boots before so guess who carried all of the equipment? Mom and Dad along with all of our equipment. Sophia was a trooper but Emma took about two steps from car and was tired and said that her boots hurt her feet. It was a LONG walk to the lodge.
Once we finally make it to the lodge we decided to go to the bathroom before we head out to the slopes. That took another 20 minutes to take off all of the gear we just put on. Now we are ready…

I really didn’t have a plan to teach the girls how to ski other than just teaching them as they go. I put Emma’s skis on first and as soon as she clicked into the second ski, she headed down the hill. I have never been so scared in my life and I cannot imagine how she must have felt! I was yelling at her to stop but she didn’t know how because I did not get to that part of the lesson yet. She finally fell to the ground stopping with her skis tangled up and legs going in every direction. A good place to start with ski lessons is “how to stop and fall”. She skied so fast past Eric he didn’t even know it was her. After untangling Emma’s legs and skis we worked on how to stop and fall. Sophia was getting the hang of it by keeping her skis in a pie shape but Emma was so scared she didn’t even want to move. Emma starting screaming and crying and Sophia started crying because she was so cold. We made it about 1/3 of the way down the bunny hill and walked that 1/3 back up to the lodge. Next time we will sign up for ski school J. The girls said that they would never go skiing again but by the end of the day they were reconsidering.
We left and went to downtown Flagstaff to have some lunch and play in the snow at a park. The pictures below are in backward order. There are pictures of the girls in the park then the ski pictures.

Overall we have fun. It was nice to get out of the “sunshine” to enjoy some winter weather. Enjoy!
